Aamir Khan released the poster of his new movie ‘Dangal’ on September 21, 2015. The movie went on the floors on the same day, the poster was uploaded on social media. Dangal is due to release on December 23, 2016.
Dangal is an inspiring biopic of a movie of a 60 year old wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, who motivates his daughters to become world champions in wrestling. The man hailing from Jat Community, Balali Village in Haryani raised his daughters to be fiercely independent in a male-dominated society. While, his eldest daughter Geeta Phogat became the first Indian lady wrestler to win a Gold Medal in the 2010 Commonwealth Games, the younger sister Babita won the Silver Medal.

Dangal is directed by Nitesh Tiwari who directed Bhootnath Returns and Chillar Party; and the film is produced by Walt Disney. The casting was one of the toughest challenges for the team, the role was entrusted to the casting director Mukesh Chhabira.
Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra who play female wrestlers are of similar ages (born 1992). While Fatima has worked in a few films like Chachi 420 and One 2 ka 4 and in the TV serial Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo, Sanya is a model and ballet dancer who has worked in TV ads like Wynk.

Aamir Khan plays two roles in the film, one of a man in his 20s and that of a man in his 60. For the role of the older man, Aamir piled in 30 extra kilos to weight 90 kilos for the film .
