Avika Gor is an actress in the Indian TV and film industry. She gained fame and prominence as an actress after her portrayal as the lead character “Anandi” in the TV show Balika Vadhu. The show tells the story of Anandi who was married off as a child. Currently, she is portraying the character of Rolly in the TV show Sasural Simar Ka.
Avika played the lead role in the Telugu movie Uyyala Jampala which marked her Tollywood debut. She is scheduled to appear in the Kannada movie “Care of Footpath 2” made by actor-director Kishan Shrikanth.
Avika Gor won the Best Child Artiste for Balika Vadhu at the 2008 8th Indian Television Academy Awards. She also won the Young Prodigy award at the 2009 12th Rajiv Gandhi National Awards.
Avika Gor was born in a Gujarati family on June 30, 1997, in Mumbai. Her mother Chetna Gor is a homemaker while her father Sameer Gor is an insurance and investment agent. Even though her mother tongue is Gujarati, she is very fluent in English and Hindi. A knee-length black dress is what she is most comfortable wearing.
Avika does her schooling from Ryan International School located in Mumbai. She participated in many fashion shows as a child. She even won the Gini and Jonny ‘best model award’ at the 2007 Lakme Fashion Week. The 16-year old wonder girl was a winner in varied drama and theater competitions at school. She also took dancing lessons at school.
Despite her round-the-clock busy work schedule, Avika is very faithful and particular about her school work. She is able to comfortably manage her acting career and her studies, without any hassles. She ensures that her studies remain unaffected by her busy shooting itinerary. After completing her schooling, Gor plans to pursue a degree course in mass communications or film making.
Avika main dream is however to become a mainstream actress in the Hindi film industry. She is already enamored by her celebrity status and quite happy with the way her career has progressed till now. She has stated many a times that she enjoys and loves the work that she does and likes the company of each and every one on the sets. Her future plans also include participating in a beauty pageant and eventually wants to be crowned Miss Universe.
Avika Gor first appeared in a small role in the serial ‘Rajkumar Arryan’ that aired on NDTV Imagine. She subsequently went on to play the role of Anandi in the television drama Balika Vadhu which is what garnered her attention and fame in not only India, but in other parts of the world as well. She received many awards and praises for her portrayal of the main character who gets married during childhood.
Avika won the heart of millions of viewers with her innocent yet powerful acting in the tele-serial. Her charm and virtue got her stardom as an actress. When she first enacted the role of the child-bride, she took away all the attention from the many bahus and betis that hogged the TV space in India.
Gor went to Kazakhstan on a tour after completing 500 episodes of Balika Vadhu. The soap opera is telecast on Kazak TV as well, and has a big fan following. In fact, Avika was also presented with a gold ring by the oldest lady in Kazakhstan during the visit. Avika stated of her visit that she was quite taken aback by all the adulation, and humbled by the affection and love. The gift of the gold ring was a very kind gesture and her overall experience in the foreign land was extremely enriching. Gor came back to India proud of the fact that she as an actress had brought so much joy and had touched the hearts of so many people.
Avika Gor can be currently seen in a more mature role as the main lead ‘Rolly’ opposite Manish Raisinghani in the TV show Sasural Simar Ka which airs on colors TV. Despite the wide age difference between the two lead characters, they do share a wondrous chemistry.
Avika Gor in Tollywood
A dubbed version of the show Balika Vadhu was telecast in Andhra Pradesh as Chinnari Pellikuthuru. It was also widely seen and appreciated. This meant that Avika was already well-known by the Telugu audience when she made her Tollywood debut with the movie “Uyyala Jampala.” This romantic drama jointly produced by producer Ram Mohan and actor Akkineni Nagarjuna was well-received by the audience and critics. The film tells the tale of childhood love and features Avika as a person who grows as the movie progresses. The movie has many tender moments and situations which appeal to both the young and the old, from the beginning to the end.
The praise for her acting in Uyyala Jampala led to Avika being cast as the main lead in another Telugu upcoming movie ‘Lakshmi Raave Maa Intiki,’ alongside actor Naga Shourya as the male protagonist.
