Juhi Chawla, age 46 (DOB – November 13, 1967) is one of the most successful actresses in Bollywood. She was one of the most popular actresses in the 90s, among the troika of herself, Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit. After a long hiatus, she is back in Bollywood playing a prominent role of a villain in the movie, Gulaab Gang , opposite her contemporary Madhuri Dixit.
How did Juhi Chawla get into movies
She was born in Ambala, in Haryana. The family moved on to Delhi, where her mother worked in a housekeeping department at the Oberoi. Her father worked for the Income Tax department. When Juhi was in barely four, the family shifted to Mumbai. Her mother began working with the Taj and her father also got transferred to the city.
Juhi studied in Fort Convent School in Mumbai and then went to HR College. Once in the college, there were forms being disturbed about taking part in the Femina Miss India Contest. Juhi filled it for a lark, as her priority was to get good grades. She says, “ I knew I was good but I knew there were prettier girls in my class. I didn’t know what I was wearing, a friend did the makeup and I went for an interview to the Femina Office at the Times of India building and the next thing I know, I was shortlisted for the finals. The finals were held at Shanmukhnanda Hall, and though there were prettier girls than me, I won probably because of an answer I gave. I got luckier and thus started my foray into films. I won the Miss India title in 1984, and films came in naturally.

Juhi Chawla’s husband Jay Mehta (age 53), a British businessman who owns the Mehta Group that has business spread over India, US, Canada and Africa. He and Juhi are the co-owners of Indian Premiere League team Kolkata Knight Riders.
Jay was earlier married to Sujata Birla, sister of Yash Birla who died in a plane crash in 1990. Juhi recalls,” I knew him vaguely when I was in college. I lost touch with him when I got into films. Later, I met him again when I had gone to a restaurant with friends for dinner. He wooed me for a year and then we were married. We have been married for 15 years.”

She s ays that her husband is large-hearted and values friendships. The spunky lady adds, “She is generous and is a visionary. My husband is an anchor in every manner possible, I am most attached to my children, Jai and my in-laws.”
Juhi Chawla’s personal loss
Juhi’s emotional anchor was her mom, whom she lost to in a car crash, a year after her marriage. A few years later, her father died too, due to sickness. Juhi’s brother Bobby, who is 8 years older to her, the then CEO of Red Chilies Entertainment, had a massive stroke, at a dinner party, and has gone into coma ever since. Juhi says, “ After losing my mother, I thought my brother would be my anchor and would be with me through thick and thin, but… I have become spiritual. I questioned many things and am still doing so. Sometimes, I wonder if there is anyone sitting up there. Of course, I hold on to my family and hold them at the highest regard, even more now.”

Some of the most successful movies of Juhi Chawla are Qayamat se Qayamat Tak (1988, her debut film), Bol Radha Bol (1992), Raj Ban Gaya Gentleman( 1992),Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993) Darr (1993), Yes Boss (1997) and Ishq (1997). Juhi Chawla won Filmfare Fare Award for the Best Actress for Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, her most defining performance in her career, where she even overshadowed Aamir Khan with her spunky performance.

She says that the media created rivalry between them, which would make her insecure. Later she came to that Madhuri was not bothered by these and would do her own work. Juhi looks at Gulaab Gang as an opportunity to work with Madhuri Dixit, which they may not be able to do again. She says that she had many chances to work with Madhuri but she did not work with her, as they were considered rivals.
She is a vegetarian and loved traditional full meals consisting of daal, sabjee, rotis, with lots of curd and salads. She has a weakness for ice-creams.
