She faced setbacks in her professional as well as personal life (breakup with Ranbir Kapoor) till she finally struck gold in  Cocktail (2013). It was then a gold rush for Deepika Padukone as she raced to the Number One position with back to back successes  like Race 2, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Chennai Express, Goliyon ki Raasleela Ram –Leela, Finding Fanny (average business), Happy New Year and Piku. She was written about more for her personal life and failed romances with the likes of Aditya Pancholi, Adhyayan Suman, Ajay Devgn and more, before she decided to get serious about her career.  She surprised her fans by teaming up with R. Madhavan and scoring an unlikely hit in Tanu Weds Manu (2011). While Krrrish 3 put Kangana back in the reckoning, it was Queen (2014) which was the game-changer.  Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015) put Kangana Ranaut on the top of the game in a head-to-head combat with the reigning queen Deepika Padukone.
