Kavita Kaushik is an Indian film and TV actress, a model, and TV host. She is regarded as one of the top actresses on Indian television. Kavita gained widespread attention and fame after essaying the role of Chandramukhi Chautala in the serial F.I.R which is telecast on Sab TV. The show has won an astounding 48 different awards as of January 2014. Even Kavita got a lot of awards for her role in the show, including the Indian Telly Award for “Best FemaleActor In A Comic Role.”
Kavita Kaushik was born on February 15, 1981, into a middle-class family in New Delhi. During her college days, this 5’8″ beauty hosted events, anchored shows, and modelled, before finally getting into acting. She auditioned for the serial Kutumb in 2001 in the capital city, got the part, and later moved to Mumbai to pursue and further her career in acting.
The journey and musical education of Kavita Kaushik was actually the opposite of her peers. At a time when her teenaged friends and peers were into pop music, Kaushik was more interested and fixated on the melodious classical Hindi film songs sung by greats like Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar, and Mohammed Rafi.
Kavita Kaushik is unmarried. According to rumors she was allegedly dating fellow actor Karan Grover, who was also her partner in the reality dance show Nach Baliye 3. They are not together anymore.
After her role in the TV show Kutumb got over, Kavita Kaushik moved on to play the role of Manya Doshi in the very popular soap opera Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii. Her foray into television as an actress continued with many different roles such as Naina’s character in the afternoon daily soap ‘Kumkum’ where she was the wife of Rahul Wadhwa, and later as a “tapori” girl who gets acquainted with Raghu, Nitin, and Akki after Ram exited from the show; a cameo appearance in the tele-serial Tumhari Disha; as the lawyer Pallavi, a pivotal character in the widely appreciated TV series titled ‘Remix,’ who wished to marry the male lead Sumeet Ahuja; and as Sub Inspector Anushka in the popular TV series C.I.D. Kaushik finally achieved immense popularity after essaying the role of Chandramukhi Chautala in the much loved sitcom F.I.R.
Besides her many different roles on television, Kavita has also worked in minor roles in varied Hindi movies such as Mumbai Cutting and Phillum City. She also played the role of Karan’s girlfriend in the 2004 Bollywood movie Ek Hasina Thi.Her latest act in a Hindi film is the item number ‘Shakila Bano’ in the Apoorva Lakhia directed 2013 movie Zanjeer.
Kavita Kaushik in F.I.R as Chandramukhi Chautala
The biggest break of Kavita Kaushik’s acting career came in 2006 when she got to portray the lead role of a Haryanvi police inspector in the comedy crime serial F.I. R which is telecast on SAB TV. The characterization of Chandramukhi Chautala and its enactment by Kavita was and still is absolutely loved by the audiences. Chandramukhi Chautala is an inspector who is slightly manly in nature. She likes to boss over her colleagues and ensure that her sub-ordinates are always kept in check.
Kavita’s enactment of the young and angry police-wali garnered her lots of accolades and much fame. She not only won critical acclaim for her acting prowess, but the role also allowed her to become one of the top actresses on Indian television.
Kavita Kaushik left the show F.I.R after doing 886 episodes because she had signed on to play the lead in another SAB TV serial ‘Tota Weds Maina,’ and she found it hard to give equal attention to both of them. The serial tells the tale of two characters, Tota portrayed by Gaurav Gera and Maina enacted by Kavita, who mistakenly get married to one another and the many different comical situations that arise due to it. The audience did like the simplicity of the characters and the plot, as well as the comic timing between the two lead stars. However, the show did not get the desired approval ratings and the producers had to pull the plug on the show. Due to these turn of events, and also by popular demand, Kaushik came back to F.I.R on 8thJuly 2013 to continue her role as the lovable and fiery super-cop. On September 5, 2013, the show crossed the much sought after benchmark of 1000 episodes and is still going strong!
Lead role in Bollywood
Kavita is famous as a television actress. But this has stopped her from trying to get into the Indian Hindi film industry. Her hard work and perseverance finally paid off when she landed the lead role in an upcoming Anirudh Chautala directed Hindi film “Lollipop Since 1947.”
The movie is a political satire which features Kavita as the wife of actor Deepak Dobriyal. Both of them belong to a lower middle class Indian household. Shooting for the movie is still on and the producers have not announced the date of release as yet.
