Kay Kay Menon is one of the most prominent actors of Bollywood know for his amazing sense of histrionics and ability to sink into the skin of the character. Some of his best work have been in movies like Rahasya (2015), Haider (2014), Ankur Arora Murder Case (2013) The Stoneman Murders (2009) Mumbai Meri Jaan (2008), Shaurya (2008) Life in a Metro (2007), Sarkar (2005) and Black Friday (2004)
Menon was born on October 2, 1966 in Kerala to his father who was a superintendent in an ordinance factor and mother, a homemaker. When he was barely one, the family shifted to Maharashtra. He did his schooling at St. Joseph Boys High School in Pune, after which he graduated with a Science degree and an MBA from Pune University. He was inclined to be a part of the advertising industry but did not really find it to be interesting enough. From the age of 9, Menon had been dabbling in theater. He says that his first role on stage was that of a flower. Theater attracted him and he honed himself to be a master performer. He met his wife Nivedita Bhattacharya while doing theater.
Menon who had begun making corporate films, decided to quit advertising industry and plunge head-on in theater. He found his calling in Naseeruddin Shah’s Motley Group. He got his first break in theater with Feroz Abbas Khan’s movie ‘Mahatma vs Mahatma’ where Naseer played Gandhi andKay Kay played the son Harilal. The play attracted a lot of positive reviews. Kay Kay Menon believes in the adage acting teacher Pandit Satyadev Dubey once told him, “The irony of acting is that it can be taught but t can be learnt.’. Kay Kay while observing Naseer’s acting skills closely also found another mentor in Makarand Deshpande who not only fine-tuned his skills but gave him exposure to the right people.
Post theater, Kay Kay Menon debuted in the movie ‘Naseem’( 1995). Although he did a few tele-films like Last Train to Mahakali, Kay Kay Menon got recognition for his role in Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi (2003). He bagged the role of DCP Rakesh Maria in the movie Black Friday (2004) which earned him a lot of critical acclaim and appreciation by the public. He became a household name with Life in a Metro where his performance as the adulterous husband earned him a lot of praise.
The 1. 80 meter tall (5 feet 9 inch) Kay Kay Menon says that he loves indulging in activities like sports and does not believe he is a star. He says that he is someone who takes his work seriously but himself. He respects Aamir Khan a lot and values his contribution to the film industry.
