Mahie Gill is a film actress in the Indian Film Industry. She gained recognition and fame after enacting the lead role of Paro in the critically acclaimed movie Dev D. The film was directed by Anurag Kashyap and was a contemporary adaptation of the Bengali novel ‘Devdas’ by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. Mahie or Mahi got the 2010 Best Actress Filmfare Critics Award for her role in the film.
Mahie Gill commenced her career as an actress in Punjabi movies. She played minor roles in varied movies such as Sirf Paanch Din, Khushi Mil Gayee,and Khoyaa Khoyaa Chaand, before eventually landing the female lead in Dev D. Mahi has also been praised for her portrayal of a sexually unsatisfied Begum, Madhavi Devi, in the critically and commercially successful drama Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster.

Mahie Gill was born as Rimpy Kaur Gill on December 19,1975, in Chandigarh, Punjab. In 1998, the 38-year old beauty finished her Masters in theater from Punjab University in Chandigarh. She is 5’5″ tall and weighs around 53 kg.
Foray into Bollywood
Mahie’s journey into the Indian film Industry started with Punjabi films and theater. Her first big break was a Punjabi movie called Hawaayein. Later, she got many minor roles in some films, but they were not good enough to gain mass recognition.
After her divorce, Mahie came to Mumbai and struggled for many years to make her mark. She finally got the big Bollywood break that she was looking for after getting selected to play the female lead in Dev D.
Anurag Kashyap met her at a film party and immediately decided that she had the looks and the talent to play Paro’s character in the film Dev D. Mahie eventually went on to give an awe-inspiring performance in the movie, bagging several awards along the way. However, this did not materialize into many new offers of films.
Mahie then did varied roles such as the one in ‘Gulaal’ where once again she garnered praise for her acting; a miniscule role as the love interest of the brother of the main male lead in the blockbuster ‘Dabangg’; a bit part in the movie Aagey Se Right; and an item song in the widely appreciated film ‘Mirch.’
The list of inconsequential roles and movies continued with the commercial and critical dud ‘Not a Love Story,’ made by Ram Gopal Verma. The movie was based on the 2008 murder case of Niraj Grover and had plenty of explicit content.
Her next big Bollywood film was Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster, where she was paired alongside Randeep Hoodaand Jimmy Shergill. The movie released on September 30 2011 to much critical acclaim. The moderately successful movie garnered her a nomination for the Filmfare Best Actress award. Mahi followed it with another commercially successful movie Paan Singh Tomar, which recounted the tale of the famous Indian athlete who later turned into a dacoit. She portrayed the role of Irfan Khan’s wife, who played the titular character. Later, Mahie again played a minor role in the sequel to Dabangg, titled Dabangg 2, which was a huge blockbuster hit.
Mahie’s debuted in the Telugu film industry with the movie Toofan. It was a remake of the old Hindi film hit ‘Zanjeer.’ The director Apoorva Lakhia simultaneously shot the film in Hindi with the title ‘Zanjeer.’In the movie, Mahie re-enacted the role of Mona Darling, a much loved and hated character in the older version and which was formerly played by actress Bindu. Mahie’s dance to a cabaret song at a club in the movie was much appreciated by the audience. The movie also marked the debut of Telugu superstar Ram Charan Teja, who was paired alongside Priyanka Chopra.
Mahie Gill also did an item song in Tigmanshu Dhulia directed Saif Ali Khan starrer Bullett Raja.
Mahie’s upcoming movies include Satish Kaushik directed comedy multi-cast ‘Gang of Ghosts.’ It is a remake of a Bengali movie Bhooter Bhabishyat. In addition to Mahi, the movie also features actors Sharman Joshi, Anupam Kher, Parambrata Chatterjee, and Meera Chopra.
Mahie Gill ex-husband and boyfriend
Mahie Gill was previously married. She divorced her husband before coming to Mumbai.
Mahi has stated that her first marriage failed because at that time she was too immature and too young. However, as of now, she has become a more mature person. She also shares a good rapport with her former husband, respects him, and often exchanges messages with him. Mahie however reiterates that the marital relationship between them is definitely over and that she has also gotten over it.
Mahie says that even at the age of 38, she feels that she is just 18! Without naming him, she admits that she is in a relationship with a man from Goa, who happens to be a businessman. She says, “It is a long distance relationship, we haven’t yet discussed marriage but we are taking it slow.” The buzz is that the man owns one of the biggest casinos in Goa.
Mahie recently bought a flat in Goa, which she had decorated with her boyfriend. She says, “Also, my family is broad-minded and no one is really pressurizing me into marriage.”
