The adage ‘history repeats itself’ definitely rings true when we see Rajkumar Hirani and Aamir Khan spinning their unbeatable charm yet with PK as they did with 3 Idiots back in 2009. Make no mistake; PK is definitely distinct from their previous outing. Aamir Khan has always maintained that he likes to do movies that are a combination of entertainment as well as a message. He has done it quite convincingly with Rang De Basanti, Taare Zameen Par, 3 Idiots and now PK.
Story of PK
Jaggu (Anushka Sharma) armed with a journalist degree in Bruges, Belgium, completes her studies and come to India, where she meets PK (Aamir Khan) who has his own set of eccentricities and weird ways of dealing with the mirth and woes of the society. The fact is that the alien PK has never seen a human being before and ends up being a joke, while adapting the lifestyle of people around him. Jaggu is fascinated by PK and is curious to know about him.
What works for PK
PK is an amazing satire with some really laughaton moments. At the same time, it has some really moments that can tug at your heart-strings. Rajkumar Hirani ensures that he balances the story well enough without going the preachy way, yet leaving an indelible impact in the minds of the audiences. Credit also has to go the dialogue writers Abhijat Joshi and Mr. Hirani for coming up with cool one-liners.
Performances in PK
Saurabh Shukla is hilarious and perfect in the role of the self-styled Godman Boman Irani has a shorter role compared to the usual Hirani films but do not be misled by the brevity, the actor creates a memorable impact with his performance. Sushant Singh Rajput has a short role and it is done away in the first half itself. We are seeing Anushka Sharma after a long time and she is wonderfully effortless. But we need to roll out the red carpet to a certain Aamir Khan who has delivered another masterstroke. Not one to rest on his laurels, the perfectionist had gone lengths to get his Bhojpuri act right, and we can see the results on the screen. He is equally splendid with his Mr. Bean-like expression. Though he may not be up for it, Aamir Khan deserves the Best Actor Award for 2014 for this one.
So, should I watch PK?
PK is a fantastic movie, easily the crowning glory of 2014.
