Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan had their ‘aww’ hugging moments as seen in Arpita Khan’s wedding; and bitter fights before, but both of them have always been dignified in praising the other, even in case of having major personal differences with each other. Here is the story of the fight between Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, and how they patched up temporarily before fighting again to finally, end up as buddies.
90s – Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan shared a warm equation. Incidentally, during Shah Rukh Khan’s struggling days, he would stay at Salman’s place and the latter would be a gracious host. In a way, Salman indirectly contributed to Shah Rukh Khan’s stardom, the former refused ‘Baazigar, which turned out to be Shah Rukh’s big ticket to fame, after which he never looked back. Salman and Shah Rukh Khan worked together in the movie ‘Karan Arjun’ (1995) and the bromance between the two was something to take note of.
2002- By 2000, Salman Khan was in a relationship with Aishwarya Rai. However, the two were headed towards breakup soon, especially from Aishwarya’s side as she alleged that Salman was tuning abusive in the relationship. A huge fracas happened during the shooting of ‘Chalte Chalte’ (2003), Shah Rukh Khan’s home production, which co-starred Aishwarya opposite him. SRK who would find it tough tolerating constant interference on sets by Sallu, decided to drop Aishwarya altogether from the film, following an incident in which Salman had turned aggressive towards Ash on the sets. Aishwarya was immediately replaced by Rani Mukherjee.
2004 – Aishwarya moved away from Salman’s life. On the pre-wedding bash SRK’s buddy Farah Khan, saw to it that he and Salman patched up. The two friends forgot their differences and had an emotional reunion.
2007- Salman Khan agreed to do a guest appearance in SRK-starrer ‘Om Shanti Om’. But when Salman asked him do a guest appearance in ‘Main aurr Mrs Khanna’ (2009), Shah Rukh Khan did not budge. The simmering tension between the two became palpable with Shah Rukh Khan’s TV reality game show ‘Kya Aap Panchhvi Paas se Tez Hain’ not doing well. At the same time, Salman Khan won people’s hearts with his fantastic hosting for Dus Ka Dum. His impromptu jokes, casual nature and spontaneity made him even more popular with Bigg Boss, as he continued to host four seasons, including this year, with everyone from critics to the audience rooting for him.
2008- All hell broke loose in the Katrina Kaif birthday bash. Apparently, both Salman and Shah Rukh were on high spirits. Though no one can really state what the reason was, it seems that Shah Rukh Khan had made an inappropriate comment about Salman’s ex, while the latter teased him about being a flop as a TV host. There were reports that the next day Salman Khan had screamed and abused at Shah Rukh from his car, at Mannat, before driving off.
2009-2010- Salman Khan in his interviews was quite vocal about his stand-off with Shah Rukh. Shah Rukh Khan did not really comment on what soured the friendship but he did say that Salman was riled with him for turning down ‘Main aur Mrs Khanna’. Salman on the other hand said, “I have seen SRK going from door to door for work. He has become a different person now.” Sallu made his stand clear that this time the enmity is for permanence. He added, “Only God can make us friends again, and this is not happening. “ Rani Mukherjee in Dus Ka Dum (2009) said on the show that she genuinely wished that the two, SRK and he would be friends again, but Salman politely hinted that it is not meant to be
2011- Shah Rukh Khan said Koffee with Karan, “If Salman is angry with me, it is my fault, 100 percent.” Salman Khan did not pay heed and said the apology was just for TRPs.
2012 – When Shah Rukh Khan faced the immigration controversy in the US, Salman Khan hinted that it was blown out of proportion. The general people however saw Salman Khan’s love for Shah Rukh Khan apparent, when he fired Imam Siddiqui on Bigg Boss Season 6 by saying, “ How dare you say that you made Shah Rukh,what he is? Shah Rukh Khan is big because of the love of people and God’s blessings.”
2013- The best thing about politician Baba Siddiqui’s Iftaar party was the Salman- Shah Rukh Khan hug that made major headlines on every news portal and news papers sites. The hugging supposedly signaled the friendship between the two foes. Salman however said, “It was the holy month of Ramadan, so it was an appropriate thing to do.” Salman however said that the two could be cordial but never the best of friends.
2014 – The cold war between Salman and Shah Rukh Khan seemed to be fast melting with both complimenting the other in their interacting with the media. Though they would pull each other’s leg during this interaction, it was believed that it was all in good spirit. When Shah Rukh Khan went up on stage to collect ‘Entertainer of the Year’ award at Star Guild Awards, Salman and SRK shared a warm hug again. Salman Khan in an interview that he never gave any chance for anyone to speak ill about Shah Rukh Khan in his presence, in all these years. Similarly, Shah Rukh Khan would always bounce off questions about his issues with Salman Khan.
The most heart-warming picture for both Shah Rukh and Salman Khan fans was the picture of the two superstars hugging and kissing Arpita Khan. Though Shah Rukh Khan was not invited for the wedding, SRK famously replied, “I have known Arpita from a long time. She has played in my arms. So even if I am not invited, I am going.” . The gate-crashing from SRK was the second best thing to have happened to Arpita’s wedding (the first being married to her beau Aayush Sharma!).Shah Rukh Khan gave a gift worth Rs. 85 lakhs, comprising of high quality premium bags to Arpita, who had a penchant for bags.
