Shahid Kapor was born on February 25, 1981 to Neelima Azeem (actess-dancer-TV host) and actor Pankaj Kapoor. His parents divorced when he was just 3. When his father shifted to Mumbai to strengthen his career as an actor and subsequently married actress Supriya Pathak, Shahid lived in Delhi with his mother’s family. When Shahid was ten, he came to Mumbai with his mother. He didn’t quite like studying in school in Mumbai, because of a feeling of alienation.
Shahid’s mom went on to wed actor Rajesh Khattar. They finally separated in 2001. Shahid has a younger brother Ishaan, from his mother and Khattar. Shahid has two more siblings from his father’s marriage to Pathak – Ruhaan and Sanah.
Shahid studied in Gyan Bharti School in Delhi. The rest of his school from 4th standard was in Rajhans Vidyalaya in Mumbai. Shahid started getting involved in extra-curricular activities when he turned 15. Always interested in dancing, he joined Shiamak Davar’s Dance Institute at the age of 15. He was a background dancer in movies like Dil To Pagal Hai (1997) and Taal (1999) where his teacher Shiamak was the dance-director.
Shahid started performing for international dance numbers on stage and the thunderous response he got, affirmed his view that he could be a star. He became the instructor at the Shiamak Davar Dance Institute. When he was teaching dancing, he accompanied a friend who was auditioning for the Pepsi Ad. It was a huge project which had the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukherji. Shahid was so impressive that he bagged the part and later the eyeballs. The came the Aryan’s video during the Indipop times of the late 90s which made him even more popular.
