The most interesting premise of ‘I’ the Vikram-starrer was the role of the disfigured, deformed character with a hunchback. The challenge was to make the character believable, gory and bad but without being distasteful. There had to be some amount of appeal in the distaste. With this brief, Shankar and his team approached Weta Workshop. Shaun Foot, the famous New-Zealand-based makeup artiste who is in charge of ‘Weta Workshop’ is credited with the impressive makeovers and makeup in movies like Hobbit and Lord of Rings. This is the first time Weta Workshop worked for an Indian project. Director Shaun Foot of Weta says, “It was wonderful working with Shankar, he knows what he wants and is really focused in his mind.”
Vikram worked on the body transformation for I, which was supplemented with the makeup for the face and the back. The result, I has opened to a super response and is one of the biggest hits of 2015.
