Yo Yo Honey Singh (original name Hirdesh Singh) was born in Hoshiarpur in 1982. His nickname is Honey, which was given by his mother. The popular singer-producer-actor and youth-icon shared an amazing tidbit on how the name ‘Yo Yo Honey Singh’ came into existence, on Comedy Nights with Kapil. He said people normally address musicians with a cool vibe as ‘yo’ which means ‘yours’.
In order to give the feeling of familiarity to his Indian fans, he gave the moniker ‘Yo Yo Honey Singh’ which means ‘your very own Honey Singh’.

The best part about Honey Singh’s songs is that irrespective of the movie’s box-office performance, the songs continue to remain in public memory, a case in point being ‘Chaar Bottle Vodka’ for Ragini MMS 2, which continues to play at the pubs, even though the hit movie has finished its run at the BO. Honey Singh said on Comedy Nights with Kapil that the inspiration for ‘Char Bottle Vodka’ came from a junk collector who he would keenly observe. He says that empty vodka bottles actually make a killing for these people, so even if he manages to collect four empty bottles of vodka, he has made a handy profit. Honey Singh likes to observe people and their mannerisms and incorporate them into his songs, just like he did in case of the heavy South-Indian accent touch in ‘Lungi Dance’ which he got by watching dubbed South Indian movies on Set Max.

Honey Singh however, held on to his stand and said that his work would speak for him.
Yo Yo Honey Singh also bought a team which will participate in the World Kabbadi League, that will be held in five nations from August to December 2014. He is the second celebrity after Akshay Kumar t do so. The name of Honey Singh’s Kabbadi team is ‘Yo Yo Tigers’.
